Relevant Quote

“You may not be her first, her last, or her only. She loved before she may love again. But if she loves you now, what else matters? She’s not perfect - you aren’t either, and the two of you may never be perfect together but if she can make you laugh, cause you to think twice, and admit to being human and making mistakes, hold onto her and give her the most you can. She may not be thinking about you every second of the day, but she will give you a part of her that she knows you can break - her heart. So don’t hurt her, don’t change her, don’t analyze and don’t expect more than she can give. Smile when she makes you happy, let her know when she makes you mad, and miss her when she’s not there."

Timeless Speech

I've never heard Charlie Chaplin speak before. Indeed, he never spoke in his films. However, as a sort of parody he imitates Adolf Hitler's heated rhetorical styling in this short clip, but turns the message of Aryan supremacy on it's head and put's in it's place the notion of the sanctity of fighting for Liberty.

These are the times that try Man's soul. Are we going to succumb to the bewitchment of the smooth talking antithesis of free thought? Will we attain a drudgery that followed the first Depression and give up on true hope? Or do we stand upon the pillar of individual greatness, and beckon forth a return of the age when men were capable of doing what is hard in order to gain that which has no price, namely Freedom?

The choice is in all of us. As Chaplin says from the biblical passage, the kingdom of heaven is in man, not one of us, but all of us. Heaven is the spark of virtue that the most capable of us trade in. Liberty is the soul's right to breathe. God is not a sadomasochistic voyeur, it is a notion that we as homo-sapiens are more than the sum of our parts. More than pumping blood and turning complex carbohydrates into simple sugars. We are evangelists of the notion that greatness comes from within, it is not granted at a whim.

When you find yourself in times of trouble, all you need do is let it be. Regain the moral ground you've sold to your neighbor for a token of gratitude and instead elevate your mind above the slimy deceit that says "You owe the less fortunate the best of you". Joseph Stalin once said "The writer is the engineer of the human soul" but I disagree, it is not what is written or read that drives man forward, it is the insatiable appetite to learn, to do, to make real the idea that satisfies a mystery. Meat and Bread are food for the body, and Art and Philosophy are food for the conscience, but Determination and Intuition are food for the Id. Self determined greatness is not wrong or ego-maniacal, it is what holds together the bridge you drive across, or the skyscraper you marvel at, it brings you to the moon and back. Your selfless selfishness is just a way for the Goose to teach the Gander that redistribution of wealth and property are not only unhelpful, but a tortuous lie relating to true welfare of the spirit. Teaching a man to fish does more than feed him, in frees him to create, to trade, to bring up his children in a manner befitting the mammals with the largest brain/body ratio. You are the key to unlocking your potential, not opportunity. You manifest your own destiny, it is not laid out ahead of time like a mint on a hotel pillow.

We who hold the flame of Prometheus should say to ourselves, each at his own peril, that progress in the face of unparalleled discouragement is worthy of your total effort. It is worth dying, if it means for just once, you truly live.

The A-Team

Best show ever in my opinion. Find it on Miro.

Sergeant Bosco Albert "B.A." Baracus

While the other members of the team regularly resort to disguises, scams and subterfuge to achieve their goals, B.A.'s distinctive appearance and confrontational attitude usually lead to a more direct approach to problems, which often involve either his skills at hand to hand combat, or his mechanical talents.

Lieutenant Templeton "Faceman" Peck

As the team's con-man and scrounger, Face seems to be able to get his hands on just about anything they need. Effectively second in command behind Hannibal (although technically Murdock has a higher rank)

Captain H.M. "Howling Mad" Murdock

Played by: Dwight Shultz

Dwight brought massive diversity in the acting trade to the warcom type show like the A-TEAM. Murdoch was freaking essential to the insanity of it's brilliance.

Colonel John "Hannibal" Smith

Played by: George Peppard

Arguably the greatest method actor and disguise artist of the 80s. George pioneered on screen improvisation by "feeling out" some lines as seemed natural.

Will update.

A-Team Montage

I have fallen in love with a new program called Miro and used it to go all nostalgic watching old episodes of my favorite show, so I am going to do a short essay on each of the A-Team characters over time. Awesome.
